I Herewith Salute the Justly Cherished Memory of One of America's (Long-Neglected) Greats: Ed Asner - aka Actor Lou Grant (of 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show'/'The Lou Grant Show' Fame): Also, Like That Much-Beloved 'Icon' of the US's Political Right, Ronald Reagan, A One-Time Leader of the US Actors Guild...Incidentally, the Sort of Fella with Oodles of Natural Charisma, Talent, Leadership Ability (A Little like Leonard Nimoy - 'Dr Spock' - Perhaps) Without (the Likes of) Whose Energies the American Left has Languished in the Doldrums - Morally if Not Necessarily Politically (in the Post George McGovern Era) - For Decades: A 'Famous' Person with More than a Modicum of True Decency in an Era, As Princess Diana's 'Foreverafterly' Likewise Famous Brother Earl Spencer Might Have Put It, When This was So Hard to Find...& Not Only Amongst the Western Mainstream Media...Your Kind Comes So Very Rarely, Ed

Ode to the Passing of Max Cryer, Kiwi Wordsmith Extraordinaire (the other day): If One Were to (Consciously) Avoid a Funeral Pyre - Whilst One was a-Dying; or Simply in a State Somewhat Dire (if not Straits!) - It Might be 'Coz One Was Wont Still to Aspire, While Plying at the Lyre, to Extricate Oneself from the Mire, Singing Down the Veritable (News/Radio) Wire(s): at New Zealand's Newfound Sire - No, not Messiah - (Soon to Be) 'Sir' Max Cryer

And In Tribute to Another - Who May Even Be Alive to This Very Day - Who In His Life Subsequent to (British) Knighthood Proved that That Ancient Honours System Still Has Its Place, & Is Not Insensitive to Recognizing Superlative Character When It Observes It: To (Near Namesake) Sir Bernard Miles (Who Composed a Superlative Take Upon That Most Wonderful & Beloved of Jesus' Parables, The Parable of the Prodigal Son, In His 'Trying His Luck in the Big Town', As Well As A Cute Piece Upon the Story of the Master's Walking on the Water, 'Guv'nor, I'm Going Under') Recorded On My Record 'Sounds For Sunday'

As It Ain't the Done Thing To Speak Ill Of the Dead, I'll Just Say That, Despite Mainstream Media Commentary Which Might Well Seem to Suggest the Contrary, the United Kingdom Got the Far Better End of the Bargain (Over Aotearoa-New Zealand) In Terms of any Perceived Exchange of Talent Vis-a-vis Certain Labo(u)r Party Male Politicians Between the 'Home Country' and its Little Antipodean 'Offspring', Though Coincidentally/Ironically They Both Departed This Life On the Selfsame Week, Even Virtual Day

"Like In ANY Government, There Are People Who Are Moderate, Trustworthy And Authentic, And There Are Others - TYPICAL POLITICIANS - Who Just Tell You What You Want To Hear": In Deference to And Remembrance of One of the Former, a True Card-Carrying Member of That All Too Rare Subset of the Species of Homo Politico, A Real-Deal Politician of Integrity & Wisdom & A Down-to-Earth Common Touch: Austin Mitchell, Kiwi Emigre to England/the United Kingdom & Long-time Member of Parliament for that Esteemed Electorate/'Constituency' of Great Grimsby

The statement made to Newshub Nation's Simon Shepherd by Charlotte Belus (sp?) on this Weekend Show's 'Fall of Kabul' segment. Though her insightful if far from unique and deeply profound remark related to what the world is presently seeing from the newly-reascendant Taleban in Afghanistan - whether it is the real quid or simply a massive charm offensive by the incoming military junta - it dovetailed perfectly for me with my own sentiments regarding the sad death of a rare politician of unusual integrity and likeability, i.e. the aforementioned long-term Labour member for Great Grimsby, Austin Mitchell.

Au Revoir to That Great British Actress Barely Alluded to By (At Least the BBC) the Other Day...the Politically Incorrect, Conservative Part-Playing One That Is...

A Media With Sensitive and Active Historic Memory: Or How Come We Hear So Little About the Awful Events of the 1972 Munich Olympics Anymore (Which Of Course Took Place In the Very Land of the (Instigators of) the Holocaust)?

I scribbled this during the recent Olympics,  whilst reflecting that I hardly heard - or maybe even didn't hear, fullstop - any mention throughout of the Israeli Olympic team as such... Or, for that matter, its immediate 'next-door neighbour', the biblically historic land of Lebanon... Both nations, curiously enough, the two targets/sources of terror/terrorism during my own formative childhood years - during that rather fraught decade of the (19)70s, no less... Israel (the Jewish Olympic team) of course at the Munich Olympics, and Lebanon for its capital city of Beirut being constantly bombed to smithereens throughout that decade, especially in the mid seventies-latter half thereof...
